The Affects of TV

For most of the world, watching television is a favorite pass time. Actually, it falls more in the area of favorite none activity. For example, by the time the average American reaches the age sixty years, they will have spent fifteen years staring at a T.V. These figures are comparable for many other countries as well.

Many people feel watching T.V. is relaxing. If you were to observe yourself as you watch T.V., you would discover that the longer the TV remains the focus of your interest, the more your thoughts become suspended. The longer the periods are that you are watching the shows and commercials, the less thought is being generated by your mind. Through these programs, you forget your troubles and you become free of yourself for a period of time.

Does watching T.V. help one to be in the present? No. Though the mind isn’t generating any thoughts for long periods of time, it is absorbed by the thoughts and views of the program. Your mind is connected to the TVs version of the collective mind and is thinking that program’s thoughts. The mind is quiet only in the sense that it is not producing thoughts. It is constantly absorbing thoughts and images that come through the T.V. though.

This causes a submissive trance like state of higher receptiveness that is similar to hypnosis. That is why it is so useful in the manipulation of public opinions. Politicians, special interest groups and advertisers know this all too well and pay millions of dollars to catch us in this state of receptive unawareness. They want their thoughts to become our thoughts and they usually succeed.

Just like alcohol and drugs offer some relief from the mind, so does TV, but the price we pay is loss of consciousness and it’s just as addicting as drugs and alcohol. How many times have you intended to turn  the TV off only to end up surfing the channels instead? A half an hour or more passes and you are still watching TV or going through the channels. Its like your finger can’t find the off button. The more insignificant and the more pointless it is, the more addictive it becomes. If the show was interesting or thought provoking, it would motivate your mind into thinking for itself again and your mind wouldn’t be entirely captivated by the scenes on the TV any more.

To some degree, programs that offer certain quality content can cancel out and occasionally even undo the hypnotic mind deadening effect of TV. There are some programs that that can be particularly helpful in changing lives for the better and make them more conscious. It is unfortunate that the majority of television is controlled by people who are completely controlled by the ego and so the hidden agenda is to control us by putting us to sleep, i.e. making us unconscious.

How can one protect them selves from this type of brainwash? Stop watching programs and commercials that assault you with a rapid series of images that change every three seconds or less. Watching TV excessively and the type of programs mentioned above in particular, are mainly to blame for attention deficit disorder which affects millions of children worldwide. Along with making one unconscious, regular and extended T.V. watching induces passivity and drains the person of energy.

Choose programs you want to see instead of watching just anything that ’s  on. Look away from the TV at regular intervals so that it doesn’t completely take over your sense of vision. Keep the volume only as high as is necessary to comfortably hear it. That way you won’t get overwhelmed through your sense of hearing and do use the mute button during commercials. Don’t go to sleep right after turning off the TV, and most of all, don’t fall asleep with the TV on.
